Janelle Louie is a fisher and artist from Southern California. While pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics at UCSD, she began freedive spearfishing as a hobby and found a like-minded community of people who valued selective take, respected their catch, and enjoyed the process of preparing, cooking, and eating seafood, often making use of parts that aren't available to those who don't have a whole fish. Commercial fishing now takes her up and down the West Coast.
